Prior to joining the Sluggers, Dustin spent six and a half years with Colorado Northwestern Community College in many different capacities. From August 2006 until his departure, Dustin served as Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach for CNCC. Prior to receiving the Athletic Director position, he served as Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach from May 2003 until August 2006. Dustin started out at CNCC as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for baseball in August 2001 and held that position until May of 2003 when he was appointed the head coaching job.

While at CNCC, Dustin coached and placed more than forty student/athletes at 4 year colleges and universities. Dustin also recruited and signed the Houston Astros 18th round and 549 overall pick in the 2006 Major League Draft, (RHP) Colt Adams. In his first year at the helm of the Spartans, he earned NJCAA Region 18 “Coach of the Year”.

Dustin began his coaching career in 1995 as an Assistant Coach for the Elkhart Duster of the Jayhawk Conference. While there, he had the privilege to coach current major league catcher Rod Barajas (Toronto Bluejays), and former major leaguers Keith Ginter (Oakland A’s), Jason Conti (Texas Rangers), and Mike Colangelo (Florida Marlins).

Prior to coaching, Dustin pitched for Garden City Community College from 1988-90. Following 2 years and 1 Jayhawk Conference West title at GCCC, he transferred to Bellevue University for 2 years and 2 more conference championships. Dustin also pitched for the Oklahoma City Collegians in the summer of 1990 and for the Elkhart Dusters of the prestigious Jayhawk Conference in 1991.

Dustin is a native of Elkhart Kansas where he graduated from high school in 1988. He was a three sport athlete while at Elkhart, earning all-conference honors in baseball and football. Dustin is married to the former Monica Lee of Holcomb Kansas and has a 1 year old son named Easton Cooper
